Eye Doctor Referral
An eye doctor referral recommends an optometrist skilled at healing your particular ailment. This can be anything from an eye check-up to a major surgery. Typically you can rely on civilian referrals from friends or family, or referral databases on the internet for something as simple as an eye checkup or to receive new contact lenses to something as complicated as major eye surgery.
However, for an eye specialist, you will generally want a referral from another informed eye doctor. In these instances, you will want an official eye doctor referral. Furthermore, in most cases, an official referral will be required by your doctor in order to undergo surgery. It’s also possible to research referrals of others beforehand in order to bring specific questions to your doctor as he or she contemplates making the referral.
If you see one optometrist regularly but then develop a particular, specialized eye problem that requires surgery, your regular eye doctor might refer you to someone else without you actively seeking an eye doctor referral. Again, as long as you have a referral, in most cases your insurance will cover this.
